ROH: ROH World Title On The Line This Saturday!

“The Generic Luchador” El Generico began his 2011 with a ROH World Title opportunity against then-champion Roderick Strong at “SoCal Showdown II” back on January 28th. His first title match in 2 years, Generico gave Strong everything he had, survived every thing in Roderick’s arsenal, and it took the champion striking Generico with the title belt to finally put down his challenger.

That was nearly 10 months ago and the spaces in-between have been filled with ups and downs for El Generico; winning the ROH World TV Title but losing it in his first defense, challenging for the World Tag Titles with Colt Cabana but unsuccessful in that attempt, conquering Roderick Strong in a Steel Cage but far too late to claim the World Title from his enemy. It has been wins and losses, successes and failures; in short…it has been life.

This Saturday night, at “Glory by Honor X” in Chicago Ridge, life continues for El Generico and it goes down a path intersecting with that of ROH World Champion Davey Richards. It is not the first time they have met, they have actually spent a great deal of their careers battling it out inside the squared circle, but this is the first time they have encountered one another with the ROH World Title on the line.

“I know Generico almost as well as I know myself.” stated Richards, “It’s part of what happens when you go to war with a man. You see into his eyes, his soul, and you see just what he’s got inside of him. I’ve seen what Generico has inside, and I’d be lying if I didn’t say it’s the biggest damn heart I’ve ever seen. He doesn’t know when to quit, doesn’t know when to stay down no matter how hard you put him down, he’s a true warrior with all the drive that makes champions. Any other champion, any other title, and Generico would be representing proudly. But this is the Ring of Honor World Title and I’m Davey Richards, and there isn’t a man alive who is taking this belt from me. You won’t even be able to pry it from my cold, dead hands when that time comes.”

While Richards is fresh off his first successful defense, alongside Rocky Romero, of the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Titles, Generico has been traveling the world every moment he hasn’t been in ROH competition and battling the best wrestlers that cross his path. Both men are primed for battle, Generico hungers for a title that has thus far eluded him while Richards hungers to prove himself a champion that will go down in ROH lore alongside the likes of Samoa Joe, Bryan Danielson, and Nigel McGuinness.

At “Glory by Honor X” each man will have the opportunity to make those goals a reality, to sate their respective hungers, and to have their own “GBH” moment to stand aside Danielson/KENTA, Joe/Ki, Black/Strong, and the other historic memories that make up ROH’s longest running yearly event.

“Glory by Honor X” comes to you from Chicago Ridge, IL this Saturday night November 19th at 7:30 PM CST. The ROH World Title will be on the line as Davey Richards defends against El Generico; tickets are available right here.
